Where the F$$K do I start?
Dear writer:
Thank you for enrolling in The Book Doula University. I am wholeheartedly committed to helping you write and publish your book. I'm going to tell you upfront, this course is not easy. Is it hard? No. But it requires you to do some work. If you are looking for shortcut, then you're in the wrong place. But if you're looking to write and publish a high quality, profit making book, keep reading.
Lucky for you, I'm an introvert. So, there's no icebreakers or small talk necessary to complete your first lesson. However, there is an activity that I'd like you to do.
Do me a favor. Pull out a notecard. Doesn't really matter what size or if it has lines or not. I like to call this The Five W's activity.
Step One
Write the following on your notecard, having each phrase on a separate notecard:
- Who
- What
- When
- Where
- Why
Step Two
Answer the following questions on each line:
- Who do I want to read this book?
- What do I want readers to take from this book?
- When will my story take place?
- Where will my main setting be?
- Why am I writing this book?
Simple enough, right? For right now, we want to get our minds in to story mode. Just planning out these basic details are the foundation of writing a book. Don't overdo it. We'll get into details later. For right now, we are just warming up.
